My personal project explores the subject of the expressions of love on a personal level, bringing into attention the stories of 24 individuals. It captures my personal definition of expressions being the process of making known our thoughts or feeling through words, time, gifts, touch and acts of services. Thus, my aim is to highlight the beauty when we discover what makes people feel most loved and when we speak their expressions of love each chance we get.
If you would like to see the development of this project further, you can do so through:
The purpose of this project is to bring to the surface something as simple as the four letter word, L-O-V-E and what a massive impact it will be in our relationship with one another if we learn how to speak them daily. This is my choice for my personal project in my final year because it is my desire to see people have better relationships with one another.
The concept of “expressions that matters” is first introduced from the making of the box into a photo frame. Photographs, photo albums and photo frames are ways people use to preserve memories and treasure keepsakes, in the same way each expression is precious.
As the reader lifts the book out of the box, the base of the box tells the summary of what the publication is about.
From eight days of photo shoots with various individuals, the total number of participation accumulated to 68 individuals from an age range of 18-65. From that, 24 images were chosen ( 24 hours a day )- a combination of individuals in different phases in life (single, dating, newlyweds, single parents, parents, grandparents ). In my flight to highlight how each person’s expression does matter, all 68 drawings were used as part of the book’s endpapers. This shows that when small things are put together, they build a bigger picture.
24 images run on each double spread- a reversed image on the right and their expression of love in drawing is reflected on the left page, revealing what it truly is. The reversed images give a sense of curiosity and signify how expressions are like. Some will be easier to understand and some requires us to take a closer look. Through an investment of time, attention and observation, we will discover and understand the reflection of a person’s expression of love. Each expression of love is framed like a photo frame.
