D&AD New Blood Exhibition 2012

D&AD recently had its exhibition, also known as New Blood in Spitalfield Market, London. This was a place where universities across UK showcase the best works of their students and many from the industry head hunt for talented individuals and pretty much offer them jobs. Here in the UK, awards such as "Yellow Pencils", "White Pencils" are greatly recognized and highly sought after among universities and in the creative industry. This was something I was totally unaware until I came here to the UK to pursue my studies. It was amazing being to be a part of the exhibition and being able to showcase my portfolio and be surrounded with SO many great talents across the UK! It was an amazing experience and you feel so humbled and amazed by the RAW talents that were showcase in the 3-day exhibition! My association with D&AD started when I responded to a D&AD brief for Ministry Of Sound as part of our module in Northumbria University. Although it did not make into any category, it was from that opportunity that opened my eyes to learn from and be inspired by students' works across UK.

Our university had 3 stands this year - 2 for Interactive Media and another for Graphic Design. There are some works that really stood out to me, which were really creative and had really solid ideas, and I would like to share them with you.1. Melissa Preston from Edinburgh Napier University on packaging for a 21st century Whisky Packaging. With a female market 'Men seeking Women', she used the idea of dating/single ads for their packaging.

Check out Febby my talented motion designer/musician friend. If you were at the exhibition you would have seen her showreel exhibited :) While we were down in London, we slipped out of the exhibition and had to make a trip to Camden Town where we always find something new and interesting ! This trip, we found deep fried oreos *wink* How awesome is that!

On the opening night of our graduate degree show, the tutors of Graphics have decided to have a number of awards to be given out to students in each stream ( Publishing, Branding and Illustration ). There were 4 catergories- 'One to Look Out For', 'Most Improved Student', 'Hard Graft Student' & 'Tutor's Choice' and it was great cheering on your coursemates when they received the awards.  Am very thankful to be awarded Tutors' Choice Student Award by my tutor, Ted Carden.
